The Nature & Consequences of Sin
Jeremiah 2:9-119
I: The Nature of Sin:
1. Sin is unnatural.
a. The Hebrew nation was planted like a noble vine, but had become like a wild vine.
b. The farmer couldn’t recognise the wine.
c. When man lives a life of sin he isn’t behaving as God created him.
d. “Sin separates from God and brings eternal death to the soul.” Romans 3:23.
Sin is a disease of the soul that only God can cure.
2. Sin is unreasonable.
a. A life of sin contradicts sensible thought.
b. In no other phase of life do we go so much against reason as in our spiritual lives.
c. The Christian way of life does make sense.
II: Why do men choose a life of sin?
1. Sinful lust has a strong appeal.
2. Men rebel against restraint, (the Prodical).
3. The life of self-denial is too much.
4. The Power of Money – “A money mad people care little for the rights of God or man.”
How can we change the curse of men?
III: The Consequences of Sin.
1. The soul that sins shall die.
2. Sin brings sorrow, (Israel paid the price).
3. Sin brings judgment, “I saw a great white throne, and him who sat upon it.” Revelation 20:11.
4. Sin leaves one to his own resources.
5. Sin blinds one to the best ways of life.
