Lord I Believe
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Faith is the title deed to the promises of God. Faith is as essential to the Christian life as blood to the body. I did not see God swing the world’s into space but I believe that He did. I was not there when he put the stars in the heavens, but I believe he did. I did not hear him say to the ocean, “thus far and no farther,” but I believe he did. I was not present when he commanded the light to shine, but I believe it.
When he divided the day from the night, I was not there, but I believe. I did not watch Him when he fashioned man of the dust of the earth, but I believe. I was not present when he caused Adam to sleep and formed Eve from one of his ribs, but I believe. I didn’t see Eve eat the forbidden fruit, but I believe. I was not there when God drove them from the Garden, but I believe. I did not see the baby in the manger, but I believe. I was not there when he healed the blind, the lame, and the halt, but I believe.
I didn’t see him walk upon the water, but I believe. I did not see him on the cross, but I believe. I did not see the empty tomb nor have I ever put my fingers in the nail prints, but I believe.
Mark 9:14-29, Gen. 1, Psalm 8:1-9
I: Lord, I believe.
If man can send voice and pictures across the world, then I believe that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro watching the acts of men. If man can fly thru the air, I believe that the Son of God will come on the clouds of the sky. If man can make bombs to burn the elements, I believe that God will destroy the present world with fire. If man can record the acts of men on machine, I believe God can keep books on the entire race. If man can feel his need for God, I believe God can meet that need.
II: How Strong should We Believe?
We should believe that every soul is bound for hell that refuses Jesus as their Savior. We should believe that everyone that is saved is saved for eternity. We should believe that He can save to the uttermost. We should believe that he meant it when He gave the great commission. We should believe that every man must stand before God and give an account of deeds done in the body. We should believe that some day he will return for his own.
