The Sower
Mark 4:1-9, Matthew 12:1-9
I: Jesus teaches by parables.
1. Jesus spoke in their language.
2. Some had eyes that couldn’t see and ears that couldn’t hear.
3. He taught them from a boat.
II: Sower, seed.
1. The sower went out.
a. He was wise to go out of the city into fields.
b. He knew the seed needed someone to bear it to the planting place.
2. The Seed:
a. Precious seed and good seed.
b. This wasn’t cull seed.
c. The price of this seed was high, (Carl Massey’s Potato seed).
III: Soil and Sequence:
1. “Some fell by the way side, (Hard path).” The trodden path.
2. “Some fell on stony ground,” (little soil).
3. “Some fell among thorns,” (too many bushes).
4. “Others fell on good ground.” Prepared and cultivated.
IV: What makes the difference:
1. Wayside seed: The Devil comes to church or any other place to pluck away the seed. Hardness of heart.
2. Stony ground: Quick to accept without complete acceptence. These can’t stand the storms of life and are easily offended.
3. Thorny ground: Fair weather, riches, lust for other things, cares.
4. Good ground: Know by the fruit it bears year after year.
