The Ungodly Are Not So

Psalm 1:1-6, 37:1-40

I: The Contrast:
1. The godly man guards his direction, leisure, company, and loves to meditate on the Word of God.
2. The ungodly are unattached, lost as to direction, blown by the storms of life, and the wrath of God.
3. One loves God, the other self.

II: The Portrait of the godly man. Psalm 37
1. “Trust in the Lord and do good … thou shalt be fed.” vs. 3.
2. “Cease from anger and forsake wrath; fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.” vs. 8.
3. “Delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” vs. 11.
4. “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.” vs. 23.
5. “The end of that man is peace.” vs. 37.

III: “The Ungodly aren’t so.”
1. “Ungodly” are out of touch with God, “unrest.”
2. “Sinners” describe habitual offenders who have developed the habit of missing the mark, and have become established as strays out of touch with God.
3. “Scorners.” It’s their habit to treat with ridicule that which is holy, good, and sacred. They are cynical, free thinkers, full of pride, and self-sufficient. They are contemptuous in thought and speech concernining God. Nothing can be done to bring them back.
4. His character, conduct, and destiny are all wrong because he has chosen to keep God out of his life.
5. His house may look attractive, but it’s built on sand.
6. He looks like a green boy tree planted by waters, but soon he withers.
7. No anchor, no rock, no God, no light for the darkness of Eternity.
