The Law Was Our School Master
Galatians 3:1-29
In the 2nd chapter, Paul tells the Galatians they are justified by faith and not by works. He also warned of the danger of falling under the Law of Works.
I: What moved you to depart from the Faith?
1. Someone has bewitched you into foolishness.
2. The Holy Spirit came not by law.
3. Miracles of the Spirit aren’t by law.
4. Gifts of the Spirit aren’t by law.
II: Abraham wasn’t justified nor called righteous by the works of the Law.
1. He believed God, (Faith).
2. They which are of faith are His children.
3. “No man is justified by the Law in the sight of God.”
4. “The just shall live by faith.”
III: Why did God give the Law?
1. The Law was added because of transgressions.
a. The Law was given to convince them of sin.
b. To put a curb upon their lust.
c. To direct them to the only place sin could be forgiven.
d. To show them the sinfulness of sin and the need of a promised Saviour.
2. The Law was given to convince men of the need for a Saviour.
a. “Is the Law against the promises of God?”
b. “If there had been a law given that could have given life, veinly righteousness would have been by the Law.”
c. The Law discovered their wounds but couldn’t heal.
3. The Law was a Schoolmaster that led to Christ.
a. After the Law led to Christ, it was no longer needed, it had fulfilled its purpose.
b. “Ye are all one in Christ.”
