Making Life’s Choices

Gen. 13:1-13

I: The Apartment Simplicity of Lot’s Choice.
1. Almost 4,000 years ago.
2. The younger man given the choice.
3. Lot failed to weigh many things that his choice would include:
a. His occupation would change.
b. His choice would affect his children.
c. His wife would become involved.
d. He would lose control of the spiritual leadership.
e. He would become a joke to his family.
4. All Lot could see was well watered plains, and a city market.
5. He lost his children to the ways of Sodom.
6. He became accustomed to being drunk.
7. He died a lonely deserted man; Was it worth the choice he made?

II: Abraham Also Made A Choice.
1. He was willing to settle for less and live at peace with his people.
2. He was willing to live in the Hill country, and build his altar there.
3. His whole family, a nation, and the world of Christianity was affected.
4. The most honored man of Christianity, Jews, & Arabs. Choices we can make.

III: Making Our Choices In This Changing World.
1. The matter of life’s occupation is a constant choosing.
2. The College Graduate is six months behind current knowledge when he graduates!
3. Three times during the average working life, a new choice must be made.
4. The choice we make for life’s Vocation will effect us in every phase of life.
a. It will set our Financial Status.
b. It will effect our ego, self-esteem, personal satisfaction.
c. His happiness will be effected.
d. His emotional and physiological well-being is effected.
e. The meaning he finds in life is effected (German Prisoners of War).
f. His contribution to society is effected.
g. His influence on family and friends is effected by his vocation.
h. His choices in Vocation will effect his religious life. Doctor, Teacher, Lawyer, Motel Operator, Trainman, etc.

IV: Every Man Must Choose.
1. Lot chose by worldly values and lost the most precious things God had given.
2. Abraham chose the simple life and gained wealth untold.
3. Moses made a vital choice that placed his name in the honor rolls of God.
4. Joshua challenged his people to choose.
5. Paul was sad when Demas made his choice of the world.
6. Life is made up of choices and one needs to weigh many things before he chooses.

V: Lot Failed To:
1. Evaluate and examine the choices open to him.
2. He failed to consider the change that would take place in Sodom.
3. Lot chose the plains but failed to get the information on the price to be paid.
4. Lot made his choices on the appeal of the material alone.

The choices we make in our work will have far greater effect than most of us realize. Every person is responsible to God for his total life!
