The Work of the Holy Spirit

John 16:1-14

I: “Comforter” “Advocate” “Paraclete:”
1. Their hearts were filled with sorrow.
2. The way of the cross was for their salvation.
3. The return to the Father was for their good.
4. The Holy Spirit would be everywhere in every believers heart and life.

II: Reprover: “When He is Come.” Personal
1. Convict the world of sin: Leave them without excuse.
a. They will know  are sinners.
b. The Spirit presents Christ to the sinner.
c. The Cardinal sin is rejection of Jesus.
2. Convict the world of righteousness.
Man’s sin reached its heights when he killed the Son of God. God raised him from the dead and proved that Jesus was right.
3. Convict the world of judgement. The Prince of this world was judged and will be judged. It is appointed unto men to die and be judged.

III: For the Christian: The Holy Spirit is:
1. The spirit of truth: A guide to truth.
2. The one that glorified Christ.
3. The power for preaching, witnessing, and daily living.
4. He is the guiding voice of God.
5. The witness to son-ship: His spirit fears witnesses to Christ.
6. The helper in prayer.
7. Best evidence of the Holy Spirits world, Gal. 5.

IV: The Two-Fold Work of the Holy Spirit:
1. He will deal with the world.
a. They will know what sin is.
b. They will know what God demands.
c. They will be without excuses.
2. He will dwell in the Christian.
a. To walk along side.
b. To comfort.
c. To lead into all truth.
d. To be our lawyer.
e. To glorify Christ thru us.
