Salting Our Community
Matthew 5:13
Jesus looked upon the heart-sickening effect of sin upon the ancient world and realized that true Christianity would be like salt.
I: Salt Keeps from Rotting. A Taste All It’s Own.
1. The sea of Galilee is 680 feet below the Mediterranean Sea. Temperature usually above 90 degrees.
2. Sweet things soon turn sour and fresh things soon become rancid.
3. These people could not live without salt.
4. Christians are salt to keep moral health, the natural enemies of moral disease.
5. There sin threatens decay the Christian salt should be there to stop it. Preserves, Flavors, and Heals.
II: What Attitude Must We Take?
1. Rottenness in our own lives.
2. In literature.
3. Rottenness in attitudes of slothfulness.
4. Rottenness of grudge and hate.
5. Rottenness in politics and business.
III: Salt Must Be in Contact.
1. It must be applied.
2. We are in the world but not of the world.
3. “I pray not that thou shouldn’t take them out of the world, but that thou shouldn’t keep them from evil.”
IV: Salt Brings out Flavor. Christianity is Truchivine.
1. Many things remain tasteless until salt is applied (Hard-boiled egg).
2. Stale things need to be freshened.
3. Life is not stale when Jesus rules.
4. Homes become sweeter and happier when Christianity is applied.
5. Staleness of daily living changed.
6. “I am come that they might have life…”
7. Christian salt is, Christ like living and a Christ like spirit.
The Hebrew nations quality of life was to turn men to God.
Our Christian living ought to turn men to Christ and the Church.
