“Your Love has Meant Hard Work”

I: Work in the Bible
1. The Greek gods never worked.
2. The ancient world never thought of their gods working.
3. They played, made love, fought wars, but work never.
4. The God of the Hebrews introduced himself as a God of work.
5. God’s plan for man included work from the very start. He was to care for Gods creation.
6. Mans very existence calls for work.
7. Do we know how to use leisure time?

II: Man’s Life Comes to a Focus in His Vocation.
1. The Christian, “A high degree of maturity when he looks upon all of life as a trust from God.”
2. Choice of vocation should be made with the aim of doing our best for the cause of Christ.
3. The development of personality often determines the choice of vocation.
4. Trust, dependence, personal evaluation, identity, and the ability to invest our life in others, is often found through our choice of labor.
5. If one fails in his vocation, he is very apt to become bitter and useless to others.

III: The Church is Vitally connected with the Vocation of its Members.
1. The vocation of the members will color the spiritual waters of the church.
2. Practical economical reasons set the churches finances.
3, Determines a persons way of life, the house he lives in, the car he drives, the time he can spend on spiritual things. His whole way of life is usually affected by his job.
4. His influence in the community is affected by the choice of vocation, preacher, teacher, doctor, business, etc.
5. A man’s happiness and emotional well being is wrapped up in his job.
6. His general out-look on life and his church is connected with his vocation. (I couldn’t drive a Cadalac in Delano).
7. One’s vocation will affect his attitude toward self and others.
8. One’s work is a religious matter for his home, his church, and community are affected by how he makes a living.

We need a new look at our vocation what effect does it have on my whole life.
