Lord of Our Home
What would happen to our Church, our homes, and our private lives if for 1 month we would do our best to make Christ, Lord of our homes? If we would ask earnest, the question “What would Jesus have us do?” Deut. 6:6-12, Prov. 22:1-6
I: What is the Most Important Task of Our Home?
1. Riches nor possessions can claim that place.
2. Prestige nor popularity.
3. Conformity to standards about us (Lots’ Family).
4. “A good name is better than riches.”
5. “Loving favor.” Better than silver and Gold.
6. “Humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.”
II: Religion in the Home.
1. One who neglects Private Prayer will never lift others to the gates of Heaven in Public Prayer.
2. The one who ought to gain most from our religion are the children of our homes.
3. A home without a family altar gives little help to children in really knowing God.
4. To eat without thanks is to teach thanklessness.
III: “When Thou Sittest in Thy House.”
1. Teach with the heart. (Only the Scripture we meditate upon becomes real to us).
2. Teach with example. “What you are speaks so loud I cannot hear what you say.”
3. Through Natural Conversation.
4. Through memory verses, golden years of memory. 8-12.
5. Through self-denial. Some things we cannot have if we are to be Spiritual and continue to love God above all else.
6. Through fear of ridicule, Israel lost contact with God when they wanted to be like everyone else.
IV: “When He is Old.”
1. Patterns of life have been formed.
a. Pleasures that were innocent are now fixed patterns.
b. Dislikes and discontinued habits of attendance to the House of God are now too strong to break. “Like the snake charms.”
c. Other things are now too important or have given way to persistent loyalty to Christ.
2. His Mental and Spiritual habits were really formed at home.
3. His Spiritual life is warn and real, or a dull gray, or a blue cold.
4. It all started with the direction the home painted them, when they began the Journey of life.
“Teach us what we shall do unto the child.” Judges 13:12
