Does Trouble Trouble You?
The world cries out to us from every signboard, from the Radio, T.V, etc. with these words: “Hey, hey, hey, you!” Matt. 6:24-34, John 16:23
I: Jesus would Teach Us How to Say No.
1. Our life can be wasted on a thousand little things when it could count tremendously on a few good causes.
2. It takes almost half as much time for us to make a living as it did grandpa.
3. We have, at our command, things he never dreamed; Aladdin’s lamp could call into existence.
4. With all our helps and improvements, we seem to find less time to serve God than our for fathers did.
II: We Let the World Worry and Confuse Us.
1. We worry about the sign, “Beware of falling rocks.”
2. Worry will have no effect on the rock, but it will effect the traveler. It will cause him to become nervous, lose control of himself, and plan his life in danger.
3. The man said, “When I works, I works hard. When I sits, I sits loose, when I worries, I goes to sleep.”
4. If we could only go to sleep when we worry or better still go to God.
5. Can worry keep the unpleasant from happening?
III: Worry Shows the Weakness of Our Faith.
1. It shows we are unwilling to accept that which is beyond our control.
2. If the train or the bus is late can worry put it on time?
3. If we see a fortune slip away from us, will worry bring it back? (1929)
4. We must learn to face our troubles one at a time with our hand in the hand of God.
IV: Troubles Will Come to Us All.
1. Jesus told us trouble would come. John 16:23
2. The Psalmist saw the troubles of man and the short span of life. “Teach us to number our days.” Psalm 90:1-12
3. When trouble comes it teaches us to number our days.
4. Dark days draw us to God.
5. The colored deacon learned where to go when he prays. “Dear Lord: Prop us up in all our learning place, we thank thee, O Lord that when we woke up this morning this side of eternity that our bed was a bed instead of a cooling bed.”
V: If My Days are Numbered.
1. There must be less time for little things.
2. I shall live each day to the fullest.
3. Each day will bring me closer to Jesus. (The Oyster)
