God Calls Again

Mark 14:66-72,    John 21:15-17

I: Seven Steps in Peters backsliding.
1. “Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.” (conceited)
2. Peter was asleep when he should have been praying. (ease)
3. In haste, without consideration, he cut off a mans ear. (rashness)
4. Following afar off, close enough to see what was taking place.
5. Evil company, warming by the wrong fire.
6. Open denial, fear, shame, and disappointment.
a. He denied knowing him to the little maid. (Peter have you forgotten)?
b. He denied the 2nd time. (Peter have you forgotten the mighty works he did)?
7. Blasphemy, bitten filthy, ungodly words fell from his lips.

II: The Rooster Crowed, God Called.
1. His bitter stinging words put the rough soldiers to silence.
2. That silence was broken by the crowing of a rooster.
3. That clear morning call stung the conscience of Peter until it brought tears to his eyes and heaviness to his heart.
4. Then he saw Jesus.
5. Blinded with tears he stumbled into the darkness.

III: The Love of God Calls Again.
1. Resurrection morning found Peter a man full of sorrow and bitter memory.
2. “Go tell the Disciples and Peter.”
3. Sunrise on the shores of Galilee.
4. For every denial Jesus wanted a pledge of love. God seeks your return and open obedience to Him.
