Home Sweet Home?

“Is it well wit thee? is it well with thy husband? Is it well with the child?” Kings 2 4:26

Are we making a success of our homes? “Train up a child in the way he should go.” Christianity in the home will settle the destiny of the Nation. The greatest need of America is solid Christian homes. Prov. 22:6

“I have no faith in a woman that will talk about Heaven and make Hell out of her home with an old gating-gun tongue.” B.S.

“I believe that the downfall of most men and women can be traced to some defect in the home.” “Obedience to the Laws of God and Man are taught in the home.” Billy Sunday

I: How Shall We Train Our Children?
1. Shall we leave it to the schools? Shall we leave it to the Church, or shall we let the Authorities train them for us?
2. A child should have duties and share responsibilities.
a. “A foolish son is calamity of his father.”
b. “A contentious wife makes home unbearable.”
c. “The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” Prov. 29:15
d. The Parent that can’t correct their children may have to stand by while the State corrects them.
3. The little boy said: “I’m five at home, six at school, and four on the street car.”

The dirtiest money you can have in your pocket is that which teaches children the wrong ways of life.

II: Who will We Blame with Our Wayward Family?
1. We bemoan the heathern that feeds a child to the wild beast, but we feed ours to the booze crowd, the card sharks or to our crooked sinful way of living.
2. We want the Church to give its best to our children, but do we teach our children to give their best to the Church?
3. We want God to love our children, but we teach them nothing ourselves about God.
4. We want our family to have a place to worship, but we tear down all the Church Stands for by the way we conduct our home life.
5. We complain if the Preacher fails to preach the word, yet we flatly refuse to have a family altar in our homes.

III: “Is it Well with Thee?” Kings 2 4:26
1. What does your family have besides food, clothing, and shelter? Do they have peace, prayer, and promises of God? “Some men are only known because they were fortunate enough to have married a good woman.”
2. “Is it well with thee? Is home for you a place where you learn about Jesus, the Church, and your obligations as His child?”
3. “Is it well with thy husband? Is he saved? Is he a hypocrite? Is he cold toward God and family? Does he feel his only duty is to supply food, clothing, and shelter? Does he by practice lead his children away from the house of God?”
4. “Is it well with the child? Is he saved, is he head for Heaven or Hell, does Jesus or the world hold him, has sin meant more than virtue, has your life reflected in your children? Is it well with their lives on Earth and Eternity?!?!?”
