To Whom Shall We Go?

John 6:51-59

“A call to decision. There is no other!” (Thompson Chain of Conference 1793)
There were many that follow Jesus for the temporal blessings. (They could take him or leave him).

I: Many of His Disciples Went back.
1. The crowd followed as long as he filled their bellies. They were benefiting.
2. His teaching was too hard for them.
3. The rich young ruler had too much money.
4. The Jews had too much Religion.
5. The Greeks were too smart.
6. They turned back when confronted with the cold facts.

II: Will Ye also go Away?:
1. There was a temptation to go with the crowd.
2. They saw his popularity fade.
3. They saw blood shed was bound to come.
4. They saw their personal ambitions shattered. No King no free eats.

In spite of all this, they knew enough to ask, “To whom shall we go?”

III: What Else is there to Turn to?
1. Shall we turn again to the beggarly elements of the World and wallow in the mire?
2. Shall we turn to the theory of Evolution?
3. Shall we join the money mad crowd and lose our homes and churches?
4. Shall we turn to pleasure and the wine cup?
5. Shall we close our eyes to Jesus and his Church ands seek to please self?
6. Shall we turn to Science and mind?

Peter came up with the right answer. What will you do? To the deepest need of Man, Jesus is indispensable!
Take the hymn “What a friend we have in yours.” Put any other name there and it will fit.
“The man that refuses Jesus Christ gives up the best life can offer and gives up the best life can offer and faces the worst Eternity can give.” V.L. Stanfield
