Apostolic Certainties
Acts 5:27-42
In a day of shifting foundations and faint hearted allegiance, we need the spirit of certainties that helped the Apostles face a hostile world. They studied the Word, they loved the Word, they yielded to the teachings of the Word, and they were willing to pay any price to be faithful to the Word.
I: A Certainty of God.
1. No one will give obedience to a hypothetical God, (Pretending, deceiving, assuming, two faced).
2. “He that cometh to God must believe that he is.”
3. To stand alone before a hostile Sanhedrin, they had to have a living faith in God.
4. They didn’t hesitate to put God 1st. The Christian that shoves God into 3rd and 4th place becomes weak and useless to the Kingdom’s work.
II: The Certainty of Christ.
1. Of his resurrection.
2. Of his exalted rank.
3. Of his saving power.
4. “Consider Him lest ye be weary and faint in your minds.”
a. Here is a source of encouragement.
b. Here is peace for troubled minds.
c. Here is the answer to troubles frustrated Christians.
d. When we consider Jesus and what he did for us we stop complaining and dragging our feet.
5. When they were certain of Christ they were stimulated to obey him.
6. He was the heart of their witnessing.
III: A Certainty of Their Calling.
1. The Preacher that doesn’t know he is called of God ought not to preach!
2. They were not called by the Sanhedrin nor the Church.
3. When one knows he is where God wants him with Gods message, he can preach or teach with Certainty.
4. Our Christian work will take on a new meaning when we are certain of these things. We never stand alone. “We and the Holy Spirit are witnesses to the things.”
5. The Speech of Gamaliet: “Take care as to what you are about to do to these men.”
You may find yourself fighting God.
