How They did it

Acts 20:17-20

Paul with Aquila and Priscilla turned Asia upside down in 2 yrs.

I: How did They Do it?
1. What kind of church house did you have?
a. For 300 yrs. they had no houses.
b. They rented buildings and met in homes.
c. To them Church meant “Gods called out people.”
2. What kind of facilities did you have?
a. No great choirs, no musical instruments.
b. No Sunday School rooms, no paper and pencil.
c. Many times little heat and poor lighting.
3. What was your program?
Our Preachers gave themselves to prayer and Ministry of the Word. Deacons and Church protected their Pastors time of prayer and preparation. Acts. 6:1-4
Our Preachers could pray and preach. Everyone of our members was a witness from house to house. We had a visitation program. We learned how to pray under fire.

The Ordinances meant something to us.

II: Why are We not doing it Now?
1. Most of our Churches need defrosting!
2. We don’t generate as much enthusiasm as a good ball game.
3. Most of us come to church expecting nothing.
4. Our heads are asleep, (no real study).
5. Our hearts are asleep (We have no real warmth).
6. Instead of rejoicing in cleansing blood of Christ, we complain of tired blood on Sunday.

III: What We Need is A 20-20 Vision. Acts 20:20
1. We need to know that most of our work must be done beyond the Church building.
2. We must go where the people are “From house to house.”
3. The Modern Church will not pray!!!
a. We want God to hear us but too often our voices are never raised in prayer.
b. Prayer meeting at Church has no appeal.
c. Prayer with the family is rare.
d. The Preacher prays alone before services.

“Ye have not because ye ask not.”
“Same Lord, same program, same wicked world.”
“We are doing less and less with more and more.”
