Living Waters
John 7:32-44, 7:37-39
I: Jesus the Center of Controversy:
1. The People were divided as to his person, teaching, and his purpose.
2. The leaders sought to remove him.
3. They sent Officers to arrest him.
4. His power of speech and personality stopped them. “Where I am you cannot come.”
II: “The Last Day.” vs. 37
1. Water was carried each day for 7 days from the Pool of Silom and poured out in the presence of assembled worshipers.
2. Remembering that God had supplied water in the wilderness.
3. Looking forward when rivers of water would make the desert lands live.
4. On the 8th day, no golden vessels of water. The commission was to show that they had reached the land of plenty.
III: In the 8th Hour of Silence. “No Water.”
1. “Jesus stood.” A Herald not the Teacher of Galilee.
2. “Jesus stood and cried.” strong emotion.
3. “If any man thirst.” Universal, no man excluded.
4. He challenged the Agency of Humanity.
a. He challenged Universal Thirst.
b. He declared that he could satisfy the deepest thirst of man.
5. Room only for 2 people. A thirsty soul, and Jesus.
6. This invitation separated every man from the crowd, Jesus and me.
IV: What am I Thirsty for?
1. What is the thirst of my life?
2. I must respond to his invitation.
3. I must thirst, I must drink.
4. The promise is personal.
5. If my life is dry and barren, I blame no one but me.
V: Rivers of Living Water.
1. The Spirit Filled Life is not barren.
2. The Spirit Filled Life attracts others.
3. Living waters in abundance is evident by the Fruit it bears.
