The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
John 16:5-15, Acts 1:4-8, and 2:
I: The Promise of the Holy Spirit.
1. “Through O.T. Types: The Church filling the Tabernacle.” Exodus 40:34-38
“The cloud filling the Temple of Solomon.” Kings 8:10-11
2. New Testament promises: “He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.” Matthew 3:11-12, John 14:, 16:, 1:33, and Acts 1:8.
3. Pentecost was when God came to dwell in the Church Temple.
II: The Coming of the Holy Spirit.
1. At Pentecost: Acts 8, Samaritans: Acts 9, Paul Acts 10. Romans at Caesarea: Acts 19, Ephesus.
2. To empower, to approve, to enlighten.
3. He gave power to witness and to preach.
4. He gave conviction to a lost world.
III: The Continual Work of the Holy Spirit.
1. The Christian commanded to be filled: “Be not drunk with wine … be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Eph. 5:18
2. The Christians Needs, for his own sake, for the Churches sake, and for a lost world.
3. The Holy Spirit is for us today!
IV: The Blessing of the Holy Spirit and the Evidence.
1. Received only by Christians.
2. Gives different gifts to Christians.
3. “A well of water springing up into Eternal Life.” John 4:10-15 Conversion and the Joy of it.
4. “If any man thirst let him come unto me and drink, he that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said; “From within Him shall outflow rivers of living water, but this spoke he of the Spirit.”” John 7:37-38 This is o overflow to bless others.
5. Some things of Pentecost were to cease, but these remain as evidence: Love, Joy, Peace, Long suffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness and Temperance. Gal. 5:22-23
V: Pentecost Belongs to the Present and the Future as Well as the Past.
1. Pentecost began a New Age.
2. After Pentecost there was no more bickering.
3. After Pentecost, there was no more closed doors because of fear.
4. Persecution scattered them, but didn’t silence them.
5. After Pentecost, Christian Leadership became an experience, not a Practice.

Confidence in Christ.
Confidence in the Word.
Confidence in one another.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit Acts 1:4-8, John 7:37-39
“The Baptism of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost was an outpouring of the presence and power of Gd at a time and a season set in the Councils of Heaven.” Criswell
The Holy Spirit came at Pentecost in answer to the Prayer of Jesus. “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you forever.” John. 14:16-17
“The Holy Spirit would come when Jesus returned to heaven. As a Priest entering the Holy of Holies, the bells spoke that the offering had been accepted. The Holy Spirit was saying “The atonement is complete!” Peter said: “Being by the right hand of God exalted and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.” Acts 2:33
There is just one Pentecost. The Gift of the Holy Ghost marked the Beginning of a new Era, the Church Age. He will be here until the end of the Church Age.
“Repent and be Baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the Remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” Acts 5:32
“Now if a man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” Rom. 8:9
The Holy Spirit is Christ’s gift to the believer. John 7:37-39.
“If then ye being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Luke 9:13
Paul prayed for the Ephesian Christians that they might be filled with the Spirit of God. Eph. 3:14-16
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the word of God with Boldness.” Acts 4:31
