Holy Spirit and Spirit
“There are 2 ways of testing a religion: one is to investigate its views, the other is to examine its power.”
I: The Gospel is Power:
1. Power to save.
2. “Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you.”
3. “Ye shall be witnesses unto me.”
4. “In Jerusalem, and in all of Judea, and in Samaria.”
5. “And unto the uttermost part of the Earth.”
6. Tho they had spent years with the Master Teacher, they needed more that they had to perform the task set before them.
II: “Christ in You the Hope of Glory.”
1. “He shall be with you and shall be in you.” John 14:15
a. “In all man-made religions, God is on the outside of the individual a being to appeased.”
b. “In Christianity God is on the inside of His people, to strengthen and empower.”
2. Christianity is a Spiritual Religion and can be promoted only by Spiritual Means.
3. True Christianity is diametrically opposed to all other religions.
4. It was the task and still the task of the church to turn the lives of men to the cross of Calvary.
5. For this task, the Disciples needed special power, and so do we.
III: Power for the Task.
1. The power came on the day of Pentecost.
2. The results were proof of that Power.
3. The changed lives of the disciples was proof.
4. The advance of the Church in the 1st 100 yrs. was proof.
5. We preach the same Gospel. We face the same sins of men. We have the same power as our helper.
At a certain entertainment given to a great Musician, there was a simple minded girl from one of the 1st families. She had learned to pick with 1 finger. “Jesus lover of my soul.”
While the entertainment was going on, she went to the Piano and began playing that tune. The family was greatly distressed but the Musician sat down by the Girl and as she struck a key, he filled in the Chord. So beautiful was the music that the people were charmed.
