Receive Ye the Holy Spirity

Acts 18:24-19:12,        Matthew 28:19-20

I: The City of Ephesus:
1. Called the Light of Asia.
2. A busy Seaport with extended docks.
3. Famous for Literature and Art.
4. Her Principle Glory was the Temple of Artemis, which ranked as 1 of the 7 wonders of the Ancient World. Its walls and pillars were of gleaming marble, the interior was fitted with ivy; Cypress and Cedar. It’s length was 425 ft. and its width was 220 ft. Its stately columns numbered 127 each erected by a King. They were 60 ft. high. The Temple was 220 yrs. in building. The enormous cost was shared by the whole of Asia. The Chief Treasure was an image of Diana, the female goddess.
5. Here was the Dark Cloud of Oriental Magic and a city worshiping Immortality.

II: Appolos, the Young Preacher.
1. A native of Alexandria (Egypt).
2. Eloquent of speech.
3. Mighty in Scriptures.
4. Fervent in Spirit.
5. Ignorant of the fullness of the Gospel.
6. Willing to be taught by Tent makers.
7. Here he learned of the death, burial, resurrection, and Holy Spirit. No one can lead others to high spiritual ground than they have attained.

III: Paul and Ephesus:
1. Found certain Disciples that didn’t ring true.
2. Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
3. Instructed them and Baptized them in the name of Lord Jesus.
4. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke in ecstatic tongues.
5. This was not the 2nd Baptism, nor the 2nd Blessing, but the 1st in the Christian Life.
6. Paul healed the sick and casted out evil spirits. The Gospel had arrived in Ephesus.
