Friends
Job 2:11-13
A Good Friend (Heart Throbs 2 pg. 198).
I: Friendship too often lightly used.
1. On slight acquaintance we call them friends.
2. Though there is no strong tie that binds we call them friends.
3. Though we wouldn’t call them in our deep sorrow we call them friends.
4. Though we feel ill at ease and stand in fear of offending them we call them friends.
II: Fair Weather Friends:
1. Some friends are obtained with money.
2. Some friends by popularity.
3. Some for political reasons.
4. When the pressure of sorrow comes, they fold their tents and steal away in the night.
III: Real Friends:
1. There is a bond stronger than death.
a. David and Jonathan.
b. David and his warriors.
2. Before these we may feel at ease.
3. To a real friend we take our sorrows.
4. They know our faults but are still our friend.
5. “A friend loveth at all times.” Proverbs 17:17.
IV: Jesus the great friend.
1. “A man that hath friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24.
2. He came to seek and save wicked men.
3. He made friends and showed himself friendly.
4. He died for his friends.
“Ye are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.” John 15:14.
