He Shall Receive A Reward
Corinthians 1 3:1-15
Pauls heart was heavy because the church at Cornith had lest its influence in the city of Cornith. This chapter he gives the reason the Church had lost its influence.
I: Lack of spiritual insight.
1. “I brethren couldn’t speak unto you as unto spiritual.” Not lost people he is speaking to.
2. “But as unto carnal” opposite to spiritual.
a. Controlled by the flesh and worldly desires.
b. Divisions in the household of faith.
c. Immorality and drunkeness.
d. Going to court with one another.
e. These came from Carnal people.
II: Other foundation can no man lay …
1. The only solid everlasting foundation is Jesus.
We never build on creeds of men nor on men.
2. These people were missing the importance of the true foundation.
3. Men can accept the foundation and build upon it.
4. The danger that they must face is putting poor material in superstructor.
III: “If any man build.”
1. Gold, silver, precious stone – things of the spirit.
2. Wood, hay, stubble – things that are of self and world.
3. Every Christian needs to remember that our lives must stand more than the test of time.
4. Work that passes the test of the present must face the test of Eternity. (The house built while the owner was away became a gift).
IV: The Test of fire. Revelation 1:14.
1. Only material that was done in the right spirit.
2. All sham, selfishness, bitterness, envy, or strife will be burned.
3. Service rendered in his name and probably never known to man will shine like gold, silver, or precious stone.
4. “He shall suffer loss.”
5. “But he himself shall be saved.”
Be sure the foundation is Christ. Take care the kind of life we build upon the foundation.
