He is Faithful that Promised
Hebrews 10:23
I: What is a Promise?
1. A declaration made as to another person.
2. No promise is better than the one who makes it.
3. The future is as bright as the Promises of God.
4. Clouds give Promise of rain.
5. Flowers and grass give promise of Spring.
6. Men make modern promises too lightly.
II: Gods Promise to Abraham and his Seed. Genesis 12:1-2.
1. Abraham promised a land, a nation, a blessing to the whole world.
2. Gods promise to Moses as leader.
3. Gods promise to David.
4. Gods promise to Elijah.
III: Gods Promise to the Church. Matthew 28:19-20.
1. His promise was power for the task.
2. Strength through trial.
3. His prsence to go with them.
IV: Gods Promises hold a Condition:
1. To claim the Promise we must move by faith into action. (No faith, no promise).
2. Israel failed when she refused to act upon the promise at Kadesh-farnen.
3. God has never broke a promise but mans failure has robbed him of the promises of God.
V: “He is Faithful, We Ought to Be.”
1. “Let us draw near.” vs. 22
a. Christ made it possible.
b. With a true heart and full assurance.
2. “Let us hold fast.” vs. 23
Stick to the job, not wavering.
3. “Let us consider one another.” vs. 24
a. Keep an eye on one another and keep from failure.
b. Provoke unto love and good works.
c. Strengthen one another in public worship.
d. The program of God calls for us to assemble together.
VI: The Failure is on Our Part.
1. Israel failed to take her responsibility and God rejected her.
2. Wherever a Church failes to shoulder her responsibility, Gods promise is withdrawn.
Are we willing to take his promises but not willing to be found faithfully shouldering our responsibility?
