Sound of Rain
Kings 1 18:41-46
I: “The Prayers of a Righteous Man:”
1. Elijahs prayers were proceeded by work, (clearing and plowing).
2. Prayer was no lazy substiture for service.
3. It always puts fire in our prayer to be expecting something.
4. He knew which God he prayed to, (Abraham).
II: “There is a sound of abundance of rain.”
1. The brazen sky didn’t stop him.
2. The dry desert of 3 yrs. failed to weaken his prayer.
3. It was as easy to pray for water as fire.
4. A small cloud was enough.
III: Before the Chariots of Ahab:
1. A 17 mile run of pride.
2. Nothing wears out the Man of God more than to run before the Chariots of Ahab.
3. The hand of God was upon him, but we are not told of God commanding the race.
4. Elijah was out of company at the gates of Jezebel.
Pride is deadly to our Christian life.
The fact that he is afraid of anything shows he has broken communion with God.
Sound of Rain
Kings 1 18:36-40
I: “The Prayers of a Righteous Man.” James
1. His prayers were proceeded by work, (Prayer no lazy substitute).
2. He prayed the prayer of faith. Crows, wilderness.
It puts fire in our prayers when we expect something to happen.
3. Elijah was on speaking terms with God.
4. There was never a doubt as to who was his God.
II: He Rose above the Circumstances:
1. Others had failed.
2. The people were cold, indifferent, or antagonistic.
3. The dry countryside failed to cool his prayer.
4. It was as easy to pray for water as for fire.
“Lord remember me today.”
III: “There is a sound Abundance of Rain.” vs. 41
1. Only Spiritual ears could hear.
2. Faith proceeded the asking.
3. His servant kept busy looking for signs.
4. A little cloud like a mans hand.
5. Haste was the word in getting off the mountain.
Work, altar, faith, and prayer, rain.
There shall be showers of blessings.
