The Christmas Spirit of God and His Church
Corinthians 2 9:8, Luke 1:67-79, and 2:1-15
Before the foundation of the Earth was laid, God made plans for that 1st Christmas.
Rivers of blood and yrs. of prophecy pointed to that 1st Christmas.
The great commission was given to the Church that the true spirit of Christmas might be felt by a dying world.
I: Christmas meant sacrifice to God.
1. “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Chrust that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye thru his poverty might be rich.” Cor. 2 8:9.
a. “I have glorified thee on Earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”
b. “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the World was.” John 17:4-5.
2. Jesus lived a life of poverty, rejection, and sorrow to plant the spirit of Christmas.
3. Jesus knew that the shadow of the cross fell across the Manger scene. “The cross I’ll carry till the crown I wear.”
II: The Christmas Spirit of God. Peace for All!
1. “Fear not.” To dispell fear from the hearts of men.
2. “I bring you good tidings.” The world was sick of bad and indifferent news.
3. “Of great joy.” To make happy the hearts of men, to drive sorrow & darkness from their hearts.
4. “Which shall be to all people.” None excluded, none left out of his Christmas Spirit. (Honey Taylor).
III: The true spirit of Christmas is in the Great Commission.
1. Its measure is imperative to every Christian.
2. Its spirit begins at home. To bypass the local work is to lose the spirit of Christmas in our lives.
3. It includes the near places. There are not to be bypassed if the spirit is to be unbroken.
4. The spirit of Christmass embraces every member of the human race to the last place on her of the human race, Earth.
5. The whole gospel to the whole world is the good news of the 1st Christmas.
IV: The True Christmas Spirit of the Church.
1. It is never just a seasonal spirit.
2. Through the local church to the whole world.
3. God gave the mission program of good news to the Church.
4. The true Christmas Spirit can only be expressed in the way that God thru Christ expressed it.
