Love Worthy of Christ

John 21:15-19, Matthew 10:37-39
Is Gods love a love of jealousy that shuts out even our loved ones?

I: Is it possible to love too much?
1. The love of a mother for her baby.
2. The love of a father for his home.
3. The love of a bride and groom.
4. The love of men for their country.

No! It is impossible to love too much, but it is possible to love unwisely. We can’t be wrong in living, but we can love in the wrong way. Our love can never be too great, but our love can be too cheap!

II: What is Unworthy Love?
1. Animal love that degrades and ruins.
2. Self-centered love that shuts out everything that doesn’t contribute to its personal good.
3. Love that closes our eyes to the sins of the loved one, (Eli and his sons).
4. Love that refuses to sacrifice for the loved ones.
5. Love that stops short of producing spiritual fruit that honors Christ.

III: Love that is worthy of Christ.
1. A love that loves in the face of sins yet never compromises.
2. Love that will bear the Cross and despise the shame.
3. Love that honors Christ will love the loved one into the likeness of Christ. It will be a passion for truth, honesty, and humility.

“A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you.” John 13:34.
