They were noted for their self-conceit, arrogance, long prayers, tithing, fasting, &amp; keeping of tradition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I: Some Things that the<\/strong> <strong>Scriptures Tell Us &amp; the Talmud:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. The Talmud says: &#8220;There were seven kinds of Pharisees.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>a. Shechermites<\/strong>: Who keep the law for what it will prophet them.<br \/>\n<strong>b. Tumblers: <\/strong>Always hanging down the head &amp; dragging the feet.<br \/>\n<strong>c. Bleeders: <\/strong>Who to avoid looking at women shut their eyes and so bump their heads.<br \/>\n<strong>d. Mortars: <\/strong>Wearing caps in the form of mortars covering the eyes from seeing impurities.<br \/>\n2. Jesus constantly opposed them.<br \/>\n<strong>a. <\/strong>&#8220;Woe unto you scribes, and Pharisees, hypocrites.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>b. <\/strong>&#8220;Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>c. <\/strong>Ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup.<br \/>\n<strong>d. <\/strong>&#8220;Ye lovers of the upper seats.&#8221;<br \/>\n3. Nicodemus, Semion, &amp; Paul were Pharisees.<br \/>\n4. They condemned the blind man that was made to see.<br \/>\n5. They brought the woman taken in adultery.<br \/>\n6. They led the crowd that crucified Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><strong>II: Their Prayer Life, Alms Giving &amp; Fasting.<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. Their prayer life. <strong>Luke 18:11.<br \/>\na.<\/strong> Loved to pray standing in the synagogue.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 b. <\/strong>Prayed on the street corners.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 c. <\/strong>Lectured God on their goodness or bewailed their unworthiness.<br \/>\n<strong>\u00a0 d. <\/strong>Condemned others in their prayers.<br \/>\n2. Their alms-gibing. <strong>Matt. 6:1-.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>a. <\/strong>Sounded a trumpet to call attention.<br \/>\n<strong>b. <\/strong>Gave to receive notice of men.<br \/>\n<strong>c. <\/strong>Received their rewards.<br \/>\n3. Their fasting:<br \/>\n<strong>a. <\/strong>Fasted twice in the week.<br \/>\n<strong>b. <\/strong>Displayed their fasting by hair, face, clothes, walk, and look.<\/p>\n<p><strong>III: Except Your Righteousness Exceed:<br \/>\n<\/strong>1. &#8220;Ye have heard &#8230; thou shalt not kill, but I say, Whosoever is angry.&#8221;<br \/>\n2. &#8220;Ye have heard &#8230; not to commit adultery, but I say, Whosoever looketh&#8230;&#8221;<br \/>\n3. &#8220;Ye have heard &#8230; an eye for an eye, but I say, whosoever shall smite.&#8221;<br \/>\n4. The Christians alms-giving &#8230; &#8220;Not thy left hand&#8230;&#8221; The widow woman put in her gift.<br \/>\n5. When thou prayest enter into closet. Yet Jesus prayed in public.<br \/>\n6.
