Psalms 42:1, Hebrews 10:24-25, & John 4:23-24<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Church has a social function, but it must not become a social club. The church is primarily a fellowship of baptized believers and the center of that fellowship, is Christ.
\nWhen true worship goes, a Church becomes self-centered and unconcerened about the welfare of God’s house and God’s message.<\/p>\n

I: Man Must Worship.
\n<\/strong>1. There is a spiritual vacuum when we do not worship.
\n2. Adam and Eve were taught.
\n3. Cain refused God’s way.
\n4. Noah built an altar.
\n5. Abraham built an altar.
\n6. Moses was given instructions as to how to worship.<\/p>\n

II: The Nature of Worship:
\n<\/strong>1. Private and public. People that do not worship in private are not apt to worship in public.
\n2. Worship cannot replace work. One cannot worship right until he is willing to work and one’s work is not right until he is willing to worship.
\n3. The form of Worship was simple.<\/p>\n

III: The Place & Time of Worship:
\n<\/strong>1. The upper room of Jerusalem.
\n2. The Temple used for a time.
\n3. Public buildings and Private homes, Col. 4:1, Philemon 1:2.
\n<\/strong>4. Secret places (catacombs<\/strong>).
\n5. The first half of third century, the houses of worship were built.
\n6. Houses of worship should not be built by stinginess nor by pride.
\n7. The time of worship:
\na. <\/strong>Jerusalem “continued daily.”
\nb. <\/strong>Many Jews worshiped on Saturday.
\nc. <\/strong>By the end of the Apostocic period, the Lord’s day was to become the proper day. Acts 20:7, Cor. 1 16:2, and Reverend 1:10.<\/strong>
\nd. Justin Martin —<\/strong> “On Sunday, all the Christians living either in city or country, met together.”<\/p>\n

IV: The Four Main Parts of Worship:
\n<\/strong>1. Prayer — <\/strong>Free and spontaneous expressions and desires of the heart. “When ye stand and praying.” Mark 11:25.<\/strong>
\na. <\/strong>Bowed knees — Eph. 3:14.<\/strong>
\nb. <\/strong>Lifting up hands in prayer. Timothy 1 2:8.
\nc. <\/strong>Petition, Invocation, Adoration, Confession, and Intercession.
\n2. Praise — <\/strong>Singing.
\nMusic from the heart. Cor. 1 14:15, Eph. 5:19.
\n<\/strong>3. Preaching of Scripture. Timothy 1 4:13. <\/strong>“Giving attention to reading.”
\n4. Teaching & Exhortation<\/strong> — <\/strong>An explanation.<\/p>\n

V: The Purpose of Worship:
\n<\/strong>1. For development of the worshiper.
\n2. Winning of others to Christ.
\n3. To the glory of God.
