Perfecting of the Saints

Eph. 4:1-16

I: The Worthy Walk:
1. Worthy of your calling.
2. “Lowliness,” a modest opinion of self, the demand for recognition is absent.
3. “Meekness,” absence of a spirit of resentment or revenge, a willingness to suffer without retaliation.
4. Forbearing one another.
5. “Keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Avoid strife, pursue unity.
6. Seven sources of Christian unity. verses 5-6.

II: Diversity of Gifts In One Body, Verses 4-16.
1. Some apostles have seen Jesus.
2. Prophets, Evangelists
3. Pastors and teachers.

III: “For the Perfecting of the Saints.”
1. Pastor & teacher were combined here.
2. “Pastor has three responsibilities to perfect the saints, to do the work of the ministry, to edit the body of Christ.”
3. “Perfect,” to equip someone in order that he might be able to perform a certain piece of work.
“The pastor was never called to do all the work of the church, nor even a large portion of it; he was to specialize in training the saints in the pew to engage in Christian service, and he would thus multiply himself,” K.S. Wuest.
4. This kind of concept of a church and pastor, eliminates the battle worming, nursery type preacher.

IV: “Unto A Full Grown Man.” O Perfect Man.
1. Mature manhood as compared with babies.
2. One ready and able to eat meat.
3. One not dwarfed in Christian experience.
4. Not “tossed to & fro, & carried about with every wind of doctrine.”
5. Full grown Christians keep the unity of the faith in the bond of peace.
