Sanctified Plutocrats

Acts 18:1-11, Romans 1:16-32

“I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God…”
This city of Corinth would be a real test to the power of the gospel Paul preached.

I: The Wickedness of Corinth and Her Power:
1. (Pelopnesus) Lower Greece & with Macedonia and Trace. Located on a rock 200 feet above sea level. The citadel located 1600 above sea level. Shone like a city of Gold.
2. Commanded the passage to Macedonia.
3. Athens the intellectual: Sparta the military, Corinth the commercial.
4. At the time of Christ one of the worlds most important cities.
5. Here the Isthmian games were held. “Vanity Fair.
6. The temple of Aphrodite or Venus the chief, to be the debauched servants in that infamous temple.
7. Here more slaves were gathered than any city of Paul’s time.
8. Rich, proud, learned fools. 70 rise in their immortality.

II: The Establishment of the Church by Paul: Acts 18:1-11.
1. Fresh from Mars Hill of Athens.
2. Sought out Aquila and Priscella, and worked with them.
3. Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, was saved.
4. Slaves were converted, men from the lowest walks of Corinths were converted.
5. No Church experienced great miracles and gifts.

III: Paul’s Letter to the Church:
1. Affirms his call to the ministry.
2. Sent to set things in order.
3. To call them to make a spiritual stand.

IV: Sanctified Plutocrats:
1. Set aside as God’s assembly.
2. “Sanctified.” Regeneration is instantaneous.
a. Sanctification is the progressive work of making completely whole, that new life which is commenced in regeneration.
b. Striving to make us Christ like.
3. “Ye were enriched.”
Richer than the wealth of Corinth.
4. Your sanctification and enrichment must be used to save a city form decay and eternal doom.

Sad but true, they were drifting from the course on which Paul started them.
