Not by Might, Nor by Power.

Zachariah 4:6, Nehemia 4:1-6, and Zechariah 1:1-6

I: 70 yrs. of captivity finished.
1. 70 yrs. to pay for sins.
2. A new generation arose.
3. God’s time had come.
4. Few of God’s people were ready.
a. Zerubbabel (42,000 – 537 B.C).
b. Ezra (1,755 – 458 B.C).
c. Nehemiah and his staff (445 B.C).

II: The Building of the Temple:
1. Everything was in ruins.
2. Opposition took the form of compromise & ten through the King.
3. 16 yrs. of failure.
4. They turned to their own houses & built their own business.

III: The Building of the Walls.
1. Nehemiah got under the burden.
2. Sanballat the Horonite, & Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite were grieved.
3. The work was attracted by:
a. Scorn: “They laughed us to scorn.”
b. Mockery: “Will they revive the stones out of the rubbish?”
c. Ridicule: “Even that which they build if a fox go up, he shall even break down their stone wall.”
d. Threat of War.

IV: “O God, strengthen my hands.” Nehemiah 6:4
1. The people’s sins rebuked by God.
2. Blessings of the past repeated.
3. Reading of God’s word brought conviction.
4. Worked with willing minds.
5. Prepared for the battle.
6. Finished the walls.
